Day 307 - Tacoma Art Deco

This is St. Joseph hospital in Tacoma.  It's a far cry from the usual bricks that most of the rest of Tacoma is built from. Sue and I went there to visit my brother-in-law, Gary, who was under the watchful eyes of the hospital staff after having a heart attack a few days ago.  The good news is that he's doing fine and doesn't need surgery.  The bad news is that he's got to stay in there another day or two so they can keep an eye on things.

Okay, lets come back to the strange, art-deco look of this hospital.  Perched up on the hill overlooking much of the city, it's a strange sight.  You can see it from miles away.  Think of this:  As weird as it still looks to us now, imagine how the residents of Tacoma felt about it back in 1974 when it was built!

We caught it in the waning hours of daylight this afternoon, so the vivid blue sky was really accented by the sun's rays that were turning the off-white building a warm yellow.
